You might be surprised to discover that when it comes to mobile homes the most common problems are related to plumbing because often non standard sizing is used and that includes mobile home shower faucets.
Mobile homes actually used three different qualities of faucets depending on the package that the mobile comes with. The standard is really cheap which keeps the costs down and lasts only a short time before you are dealing with replacing faucets.
The next level is chrome plated plastic which is still extremely poor quality but a little better than the cheapest of cheap. Expect to replace these within a couple of years.
Brass is a much better quality and is what is used if you pay for an upgrade package. At least with brass you can expect to get an average life expectancy.
At least faucets are relatively easy to replace and even a high quality set won’t set you back too much. So while you are replacing the faucets in the shower why not make a day of it and replace your bathroom sink faucets and your kitchen faucets too?
The most important thing you need to remember is that you need to measure and never assume it will fit because mobile standards are different than house standards although in the past few years there have been some improvements and an effort is being made to standardize with house construction.
Not only are the shower faucets often inferior the shower casing is often inferior as well. Often it is just a thin layer of plastic that has been attached with glue. Now the material itself might hold up but usually the seals aren’t properly sealed which allows moisture behind and then big problems develop.
So the moral of the story here is to check all the seals and in fact rather than checking just grab a tube of sealant and reseal all the seals then you know where you are at.
You have almost as many faucet choices for your mobile as you do for your house. The only difference is you can’t just grab off the shelf without knowing the measurements of your existing faucets. Of course if you are a handyman you can very quickly change it so that you can install standard home construction faucets.
Tubs can also be a bit of an issue since they are commonly smaller than a standard size tub and they are also plumbed different than a house tub so don’t try to replace the existing tub with a standard tub unless you are ready for some major renovations.
When replacing parts it’s a good idea to improve the quality from the original level of product. After all if you are going to do the repair you might as well make it last for awhile?
You might also consider taking this time to make your décor statement. Why stick with the boring traditional faucets? Now’s your opportunity to spruce it up a little, add a little class to your décor.
Mobile homes are an affordable option for owning your own home. They are a great choice if you are looking for reduced living space and maintenance. And just because they come with lower quality mobile home shower faucets with just a little afternoon project you can quickly change that!
